All very sad

So the ACC is continuing with intrigue and conspiracy apparently the order of the day. Of course, I am not there and can only go on what I’m being told although other bloggers are there, tapping away like mad to try and keep everyone up-to-date.

We’ve had a draft resolution from a group of (mostly) non-Western countries that will be discussed this afternoon that sounds tantamount to expulsion for the USA and Canada.

Archbishop Akinola has provided another document which he has asked by way of covering letter to be considered in closed session this afternoon.

Elsewhere, I’ve read some complaining about the material presented yesterday (pdf download) to the ACC and whether it was truly consulted on or not.

Overall, it looks like Archbishop Rowan’s call for both sides to abandon ‘sides’ and engage with each other as one body has fallen on very deaf ears. For such a learned, culturally diverse bunch who between them, ultimately, form a highly significant section of our global Anglican leadership, it’s very sad to see such a call go completely unheeded.

It appears that the draft resolution was passed but the fifth point was severely watered down from what was first seen this morning.

“further requests that the Episcopal Church (USA) and the Anglican Church of Canada withdraw their members from all other official entities of the Communion for the same period”

“interprets reference to the Anglican Consultative Council to include its Standing Committee and the Inter-Anglican Finance and Administration Committee.”

Either way, it is still not looking good for maintaining the Communion as we know it.
